About John

A young John BowdlerBorn and educated in Wigan, Lancashire, John Bowdler has been playing the organ since he was a child.

At the age of 8 John was given a keyboard for Christmas and was clear even then that John had a natural ear for music. To the sheer amazement of his family he immediately sat down and started playing Jingle Bells.

At the age of 16 he was offered an audition at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, from where it all started.

Since 1987 John has been part of the team of organists who play daily for dancing in the world famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

In addition to his commitments at The Blackpool Tower, John BowdlerJohn travels the country extensively undertaking concerts for organ societies and playing for dances. He also makes several appearances at organ festivals all over the country.

John Bowdler's early daysJohn has been interviewed by various radio stations in the country. He has also made several TV appearances on ITV, BBC, Sky and Swiss Television. During 1997 John made his international debut in Amsterdam, completing a successful concert weekend.

To complement John's live performances, he also has a series of recordings, made both at the world famous Wurlitzer Organ of The Blackpool Tower Ballroom and his own Technics GA-3 electronic Organ. For a full list or his recordings click HERE.

In 1998 John was voted “Organist of the year” by two Organ Societies: Verwood Organ Society in Dorset and Top Note Organ Society in Leyland. John Bowdler at the Wurlitzer

Horse racing fans may have noticed “John Bowdler Music”, a horse originally owned and named by Paul Dean, a keen dancer at The Tower Ballroom. Paul also purchased two other horses which he named “Bouncing Bowdler” and “Bowdlers Magic.”
